Who We Are
Grace House, a mission of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwestern Virginia, offers Labor/Learning Exchange Program, a significant part of the work at Grace House. Grace House furnishes building materials and tools and the groups provide the labor for construction projects which improve the homes of low income, elderly, or disabled people in the area.
Participants repair roofs, rotten steps and porches, replace ceilings and gutters, clean and paint homes, build storage sheds or handicap ramps for families struggling with poverty or physical disabilities. Participants leave the experience inspired and spiritually enriched. Most participating colleges send groups back every summer.
In exchange Grace house provides program coordination, housing, a variety of educational experiences in the region and culture, and opportunities for theological reflection and worship. Groups of all ages comes from churches of many denominations, from universities and through international exchanges.
