Who We Are
The mission of the Virginia Statewide Area Health Education Centers Program is to promote health careers and access to primary care for medically underserved populations through community-academic partnerships. The mission is accomplished through the following four major areas of program activity
- Goal 1: Develop health careers recruitment programs for Virginia's students, especially under-represented and disadvantaged students
- Goal 2: Support the community-based training of primary care health professions students, residents, and other health professions students in Virginia's underserved communities
- Goal 3: Provide educational and practice support systems for the Commonwealth's primary care providers
- Goal 4: Collaborate with health, education, and human services organizations to achieve the shared goal of improved health and disease prevention for the citizens of the Commonwealth
