Cardinal Care Medicaid is the federally funded medical care program for Virginia individuals who are elderly, blind, disabled, dependent children, low-income families, and children including parents and pregnant women. The program offers medical coverage for doctor visits, emergency room visits, hospitalization, prescriptions, medical supplies and equipment, nursing home costs, and home health care. The level and scope of coverage vary.
To be eligible, individuals must meet income and resource requirements. Most Family and Children Medicaid Programs do not have resource limits. Supplemental Security Income recipients are generally eligible for full coverage. Aged, blind and disabled individuals with incomes less than 80 percent of the federal poverty level may also be eligible for full coverage.
CommonHelp is a web-based system that allows Virginia citizens 24/7 easy access to the screen and apply for Cash Assistance (TANF), Child Care Services, Energy Assistance (Fuel, Crisis and Cooling), Food Assistance (SNAP) and Medical Benefits Eligibility (Cardinal Care Medicaid). You can also renew your eligibility and report changes for all programs noted on the CommonHelp website. Visit the CommonHelp site.
