Who We Are
The University of Virginia Medical Center offers a Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinic held at the Wise County fairgrounds annually, usually in the summer. Many patients are from the coal counties of Southwest Virginia. The volunteers usually stay one to three days, depending upon the need. Concerns include hypertension, arthritis, depression, heart disease, diabetes and pulmonary disease. The volunteers provide emergency care, women's health, endocrinology. dermatology, general medicine, mammography, social services and more.
Each fall volunteers hold a second clinic in Grundy Virginia, at the Riverview Elementary School. Call for more information.
Mobile mammography van travels the region's back roads to offer digital mammography services at least once a month.
