At the Virginia Beach Community Services Board, the Community-Based Crisis Stabilization program provides direct behavioral health care to adult non-hospitalized individuals experiencing an acute psychiatric crisis that may jeopardize their current community living situations. The goals of the program are to do the following:
- Avert hospitalization or re-hospitalization through step-down or step-up services from acute care, intermediate care and Crisis Stabilization Units;
- Provide a normative environment with a high assurance of safety and security;
- Stabilize individuals in a psychiatric crisis,;
- Mobilize the resources of the community and natural support systems for ongoing maintenance and rehabilitation;
- Manage symptoms and behavior through individual and group therapy.
