We Honor Veterans, Charlottesville

We Honor Veterans is a national program in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).  Staff and volunteers focus on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening and acknowledgment of service.  By recognizing the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families, community providers, in partnership with VA staff, will learn how to accompany and guide them through their life stories toward a more peaceful ending.

We Honor Veterans provides educational tools and resources in advancing these goals: 

•     Promote Veteran-centric educational activities
•     Increase organizational capacity to serve Veterans
•     Support development of strategic partnerships
•     Increase access and improve quality

Staff at Hospice of the Piedmont document military service at admission, work with the Veterans Administration to access practical resources, acknowledge a veteran's service through a simple but meaningful pinning ceremony, arrange training to understand the special needs of veterans and try to partner veteran hospice volunteers with veteran patients.
