Who We Are
The Newton & Wilma Thomas Hospice House offers a home for terminally ill patients who cannot remain in their own homes. Hospice provides palliative care approved by the patient's physician, along with emotional and spiritual support for the entire family. Working through teams made up of health care professionals, a coordinated program of care is planned to meet the unique needs of each patient & family. Team members are chosen from a highly qualified staff of Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Home Health Aides, Physical, OT and Speech Therapists, Nutritionists, Staff Chaplains, Counselors and trained volunteers.
Hospice House has eight bright and cheery rooms, each with its own private bath, as well as a kitchen and dining facilities, a meditation room, and office space for clinical staff. A cook prepares nutritious meals daily and makes every effort to be responsive to the special needs of Hospice House patients. The full spectrum of hospice care is available to Hospice House residents.
To be considered for admission to Hospice House, one must be a Hospice of the Piedmont patient and undergo an assessment by a hospice professional to determine the appropriateness of Hospice House residency. Hospice House has proved to be an ideal setting for entire families to deal with end-of-life issues for their loved one. Support from a nurse and a counselor is available to patients and families 24 hours a day. Grief counseling and support is available for all ages including "Journeys" a program to aid children and teenagers cope with loss and grief.
