Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance (VICAP)

The Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (VICAP) offers free confidential help and unbiased advice about Medicare health insurance and long-term care insurance. Depending on your needs, the counseling may be provided by telephone or in person by appointment. The federal name for this program is the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP).



Trained counselors:

*Provide basic Medicare information;

* Assist you in understanding Medicare claims;

* Help you explore your long-term care insurance needs;

* Help you compare and understand Medicare supplemental policies, Medicare managed care plans and Medicare Part D drug plans;

* Educate you regarding Medicare/Medicaid fraud and abuse,



Please note that the AAA also has a Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) program to assist beneficiaries with fraud and abuse issues surrounding Medicare and/or Medicaid.
