Who We Are
The Albemarle Housing Improvement Program (AHIP) believes that everyone should be safe at home. They work year-round to provide emergency repairs, home rehabs, and energy-efficiency upgrades to families in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. AHIP's mission is to ensure safe, affordable homes for their neighbors in need.
To get the job done, they work with a spectrum of community partners, including local governments, peer housing organizations, social services agencies, regional funders, a wide variety of volunteer groups, and donors. Together, they improve homes, preserve families' assets, revitalize neighborhoods, and protect the local affordable housing stock.
AHIP is:
- a private, 501(c)3 organization serving low-income individuals and families
- a full-service, state-licensed Class A Contractor and an EPA-certified lead abatement contractor
- 25 full-time administrative, program, and construction staff
AHIP provides:
- small to large home repairs
- moderate to comprehensive housing rehabilitations
- energy-efficiency upgrades
- common rehab and repair tasks including roofs; HVAC systems; plumbing and electrical systems; flooring; steps; decks, and regresses; access ramps; and wells and septic systems
- common energy upgrade tasks including air-sealing, duct-wrapping, insulating, and installing energy-efficient appliances, windows, doors, and HVAC systems
