Who We Are
Fauquier County Department of Social Services offers Virginia's Initiative for Employment not Welfare (VIEW) program to all Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients with children over the age of 12 months with the exceptions of
Individuals under the age of 18 or over 60
Any individual between 18 and 19 who is enrolled full-time in school
Any disabled individual
Any person who is the sole caregiver of a disabled household member
A parent or primary care giver of a child under 12 months
Any caretaker/relative who is not the natural or adoptive parent
What are the requirements of VIEW? The individual must sign an Agreement of Personal Responsibility stating that they will participate in work activities in order to receive their TANF check. If an individual is unable to obtain employment within the allotted timeframe, they will be placed in community work experience. Failure to comply in a work activity will result in a sanction or closure of public assistance benefits.
How long can a person participate in the VIEW program? 24 months, which do not have to be consecutive
What happens at the end of the 2 years? The participant can qualify for 12 months of transitional assistance in day care and transportation.
What type of supportive services are usually requested from a VIEW participant? Day care, transportation, vocational training and assessment, i.e. computers, G.E.D. prep classes, job readiness training and financial/budgeting classes.
