Environmental Health Services

The Spotsylvania County Health Department offers environmental health services in areas of food, soil, water, animal bites, and consumer complaints. The department interprets rules and regulations governing restaurants for owners, evaluates handling procedures on a continuing basis and issues permits for the operation of restaurants; evaluates properties for onsite sewage disposal systems permits and inspects these systems for approval; evaluates properties for onsite well permits and approves the installation of wells.

Animal bites are investigated and advice on preventing the spread of rabies is given. The department also investigates general environmental complaints which may be public health hazards, evaluates swimming pools, and performs environmental investigations for lead.
