The City of Williamsburg Parks and Recreation offers many sports activities, classes, special events and parks for people to enjoy. Highlights of the Parks and Recreation programs include:
The athletic program sponsors adult leagues in basketball, softball, tennis and volleyball. Youth may also participate in camps and clinics plus the basketball, softball, tennis and volleyball leagues. To register stop by the Quarterpath Recreation Center to complete the registration/waiver form and pay the required fee.
The Parks and Recreation maintains City Parks for the public to enjoy. This includes 9 parks, the Quarterpath Park Pool, Municipal Tennis Courts and the Waller Mill Dog Park. The website has a brochure and detailed description of all the parks. Ten tennis courts are within the city limits and swimming lessons are offered during the summer.
A large variety of instructional Classes are offered throughout the year: ballroom dancing, dance classes for youth, dog obedience classes, kayak classes, swimming lessons Tae-Know-Do, Tai Chi and Yoga.
The Quarterpath Recreation Center, located at Quarterpath Park, houses offices for the recreation staff, an 18,000 sq. ft. double gymnasium, a 1,700 sq. ft. dance/aerobics room, two classrooms and a 1,900 sq. ft. multipurpose room. Various instructional classes, athletic programs for youth and adults, sports camps, and special events are held throughout the year at this facility.
The 286-acre lake located at Waller Mill Park is open for fishing, boating, pedal boating, canoeing and kayaking with a tunnel connecting the upper and lower sections of the lake. Numerous picnic tables, four shelters, play fields, and playground equipment are nestled among the trees providing a scenic picnic area. The shelters can accommodate 25-150 people.
