Who We Are

Western Tidewater Community Services Board (WTCSB) offers the Nurturing Parenting Program. This program targets families at risk for abuse and neglect with children birth - 18 years. Programs are family-centered, trauma-informed initiatives that build nurturing parenting skills as an alternative to abusive and neglectful parenting and child-rearing practices. Goals are to:

  • prevent recidivism in families receiving social services;
  • lower the rate of multi-parent, teenage pregnancies;
  • reduce the rate of juvenile delinquency and alcohol abuse;
  • stop the intergenerational cycle of child abuse by teaching positive parenting behaviors.

This program emphasizes the belief that children who are cared for develop the capacity to trust, care, and respect themselves others, all living creatures and the environment.  Any community partners within the cities of Suffolk and Franklin and the counties of Isle of Wight and Southampton may submit referrals. The referral form is available on the website.
